Thought I might give an update for future plans. At the moment I am working on getting up a Source Port section. While there may not be many different ports for Windows and Linux, there are quite a few for portable systems, and would like to have a general easy to find archive for all of these various ports.

I am also contemplating a Tutorial section, but the problem with that is there are no tutorials. I feel that having general references on how to do things would help out the community (making it easier for beginners to get into map making for ROTT), but the problem with this is writing them. Would anyone else here be interested in helping create a few tutorials for the community? Things such as mapping tips, Editor FAQ, etc. I myself could do something like this for Birgers editor in the future.

Thats all for now.

Alright, I've got the new levels added to the files list. For the others just either check through the pack Per-Scan added or check the news section on the ROTTpository for whats been added.

Currently the ROTTpository has 73 solo maps and 37 Comm-Bat levels (How odd is that Smile?) bringing the map total to 110 maps found at the ROTTpository!

...oh and one Music Wad too Razz

Here you go then:

I hope these are of use to you. It's amazing how many levels were put out around 95 and 96 and then it all seems to have pretty much stopped... Maybe it's time for a ROTTnaisance, after all. Smile

Either of those formats would work just fine Per-Scan, and any additions to the ROTTpository are apprciated, no matter how small Smile

And I also tend to rename my files to there "Proper Names" as seen in readme files, so sorry if that caused some problems in comparison.

Well, I've gone through all the files and dumped the duplicates (about half of them!) and I've compared them to your list on the ROTTpository, well, until I went cock-eyed anyway! It turns out that I didn't have as many as I hoped as a good few were repackaged and renamed somewhere down the line by others. I think I've found 5 levels sets in total that isn't listed. There are 4 single-player sets and one Comm-bat one.

How would you like them packaged Lawstiker? I have them in zip and 7z files at the moment but it's easy enough for me to convert them to your preference. Smile

Ah good to hear Smile, take as much time as needed. I understand file organization takes some time, I use to be horrible in organzing my files Wink

I've seen a few of them floating around Youtube, listen to a few of them that was good. I might add a section for remixes...but it would have to depend on how many we find, as they might possibly strain the bandwidth if I put up to many and people take to downloading them often.

Don't worry about adding extra levels. I still have a good few you've not got up yet. I'm working a lot over the next couple of days and my girlfriend's coming back home for a few days (she's on tour and has the weekend off) but I'll definitely have time to go through them next week. I've been in the process of tidying out my folders to get rid of all the duplicate files etc - it's taken a little longer than I thought it would!

As for adding other stuff, are there many remixes of ROTT tunes out there? I haven't come across too many (there's DJFlan's mix and there's the Family Guy mix) but there must be at least a couple floating around... Smile

NEW UPDATES TO THE ROTTPOSITORY!!!

Yes I know I could have edited my last post, but then you wouldn't have noticed the updates Smile (I think...)

--------------------------------------------------

Anyway to the updates. I've added some more files to the ROTTpository. Nothing of the map variety though sadly. Just editing tools and such.

For Wad editors, I have added both XWE and Game File Explorer to the list, as both of these programs have support for ROTTS files. Also, it turns out what I said about XWE before hand was wrong. It can import new files, but I believe it screws with the Wad's file signature and Winrott (and mostly likely any other flavor of ROTT) will not read it as the official darkwar file. I also added Birgers ROTTMultiTool to the Wad editing section.

Two new RTS Editors where added after I checked out a Duke Editing site, RTS Sampler and RTS Maker/Editor.

Also, a new section was added called "Other Tools" and this will have all those miscellaneous ROTT programs I find out there. Currently I only have the Wolf2Rott programs and the Rise of the Triad Level Compressor added.

If there is anything else you think should be added please let me know Wink

I was actually lurking around here for a bit back in 2008, so I have to agree with dopefish in saying activity has jumped quite a bit these days!

Haha, I wouldn't worry about that Per-Scan. It is very true that this community has grown a fair amount. It used to be just admin, myself, jBailey, and a few others might drop by occasionally, posts weren't all that common. I have never seen this board as active as it is now.

Personally, I would add XWE just for completeness but with an explanation of it's limitations.

Also, as far as Mike's idea fro a site goes, I still think if you have the time and skill then it could only be a good thing to have. As someone who has run 2 shops as they were going bust (call me lucky!) the biggest thing I found to keep them alive as long as possible was to give the impression of success. This meant stocked shelves (as much as was practical) and a bright and airy feel to the place both physically and psychologically. If people come into a shop with a depressed atmosphere (no music and cynical staff) and little to no stock on the shelves they ain't buying sh*t!

In other words, if people stumble across a small community that has optimism and the ostensible look of an active (and growing) user-base they are much more likely to stay around and participate.

In reality the community is growing just now. When I signed up there was only really me with the occasional post from dopefish. Now there are at least FIVE of us!! Razz And (it's true that it's taken 2 years!) Mike is finally getting feedback on his levels! Hammer ahs a host for his levels too and we have nice shiny ROTTpository!! Good times indeed for the most exclusive club on the interwebs!!

PS: I apologise if this is a patronising post. Embarassed

Not at all Smile

But we've got a little momentum at the moment, at least there's people posting here again!

Edit:

Alright guys, I need a little bit of a ruling here.

A wad editing tool for doom (and many other games for that matter) called eXtendable Wad Editor has limited support for the game Rise of the Triad. From what I found out so far, you can browse the wad file and extract files, but I don't think it allows for you to import files. Should this be added to the editing section of the ROTTpository, or would it need to have better support before we consider adding it?
