-----------------------------------------------------------
Update: Dec 23, 2011
-----------------------------------------------------------
As of Dec 23, 2011 the ROTTpository as you know will no longer be updated or maintained. The ROTTpository had been moved over to the ROTT HQ and will remain there as of now. The older ROTTpository will remain on the net for both historical reasons and as a backup. If you wish to get the latest and up to date ROTT downloads, please head over to its new location at the HQ mentions above.

End of update

Yes dopefish I actually called it that
Anyway, this is what i've been wasting some of my free time on as of late. I brought a topic up with dopefish awhile back about how I disliked how there was no permanent location for files once they where made, and he suggested using a freewebs site because of the low general interest in Rise of the Triad. Since I had messed with freewebs in the past, I decided "hey why not? maybe some people will like it" and went to work. It may look pretty bland in design, but thats not the purpose. The purpose is the user maps. With that said, there may be problems with files here and there, so if you find something wrong with the site (Mis-labeled files, stuff not downloading/extracting properly) please inform me here so that I may go about fixing it.
All files are in rar format (was going to just use zip, but it had issues accepting zip files, so went with rar. Besides, rars better anyway) so remember that while downloading.
I have also made a tools section that has all the ROTT editing tools that I know of, plus various versions of the files (yes, I did scour the depths of the internet just to find ROTT Mapper Deluxe 2.0a/b ) just for the hell of it.
Oh and Mike and Hammer? I have uploaded your recent map works here as well. I know Hammer was looking for a more permanet place, so hopefully this helps. Mike? just thought I would upload your map here for future access. Hope you don't mind.
Well, I think thats enough rambling wouldn't you say? Here's the link to the site: http://rottlevels.webs.com/
Be sure to give your thought if this is helpful or not

I've only quickly scanned over it but it really does the job! A permanent home is a great boon to the community (as Hammer can atest!). I have a metric ton of ROTT files (levels, editors, artwork, articles etc) I'll go through your collection and compare to mine. When and if I find stuff you don't have I'll send them to you.
PS: I like the name. Anything ROTT related can NEVER be too cheesy! |

Nice.
Looks like you've been at work as of late. A permanent home for maps is a great idea..!
Also looks pretty cool right now. Simplistic, I like it.
Edit: Oh, and if the hosting gets to be too much, I could probably host some on my webspace FTP. I have plenty of room there. _________________ -Swim, swim, hungry |

That would be great! One specific file I can think of is the solo map called Fear. I was able to extract both the readme, and the bonus Comm-bat levels from the file, but not the rtl file. If you have a function copy of that map it would certainly be appreciated, along with anything else you may find.

Thanks for the offer , i'll be sure to contact you if it does.
Now that i've got this finished I get back to those ROTT levels I was working on |

I think this is what you're after:
http://cid-c0ebae7cfc051a83.office.live.com/browse.aspx/ROTT?uc=1
I have to tidy up all my folders and sift through all this stuff. I was 'collecting' it all for a potential site I was going to put together but now that yours is up and running I don't suppose there's much need for mine any more! |

Ah thank you Per-Scan! Exactly what I was looking for.
Now with that, I have uploaded it to the site and the map file "Fear" is now available to all
Glad to see I wasn't the only one disappointed about the lack of a site, guess I was just quicker on the draw |

Glad that's the one. As for my site; it was going to take me forever anyway as I have yet to learn how to create one let alone getting it hosted and all that other jazz. I'm just happy there's somewhere to store files now. |

That's fine, as long as I have the ability to overwrite that version with the "improved/fixed" version once I finish it.
BTW, I can't [currently] get http://rottlevels.webs.com/ to load. I only get a blank white page. If for some reason this doesn't work out, I'd be happy to host them. (I used to run a rather popular Duke3D site back in the day, and housed/rated many hundreds of levels. Fun times). I actually had the same idea of creating a "ROTT Maps" site, but dismissed it because there isn't a tremendous demand for it. I hope I'm wrong!
Thanks,

Don't worry, the moment you ever release an update I will be sure to take down the older file and replace it with the new one.
And sorry you are unable to see it. Has anyone else been having this problem? I've viewed this several times and never had a trouble. |

It's working fine for me (I just downloaded a couple of files). Mike, what browser are you using? Have you tried another one, at all? |

I think the problem may correct itself for Mike in a bit, probably just some DNS issues.
If you want try the following:
1) Hold the [Windows Key] and press [R].
2) In the dialogue that shows up type "cmd" and hit [Enter]
3) In the black box that appears, type "ipconfig /flushdns" and hit [Enter].
4) Try the link again. _________________ -Swim, swim, hungry |

Thank, but not using Windows. I'm a Linux guy.
The DNS problem must have cleared up, as it's working fine now. I'll check it out in detail later.
Thanks!

Nice that it's working now... Thought the problem would solve itself, it tends to be a problem with new websites. _________________ -Swim, swim, hungry |

For what it's worth (probably nothing), I was envisioning creating a site where users could log in and upload/maintain their own levels, where anyone could rate levels, and you could display the list of levels sorted by rating. Perhaps the ratings could be in several categories (originality, trickiness, well-rounded, difficulty, whatever). Of course this is aiming FAR too high for a game that only a half-dozen people play nowadays.
So what you've created is probably perfect.
Of course my levels are lost in the middle of the pack, so my next levels will be named 0000ROTT.RTL or AAAAMIKE. Heh.

I'm sure we would all love some place like that Mike
Though sadly we just are not that large of a community, and something like that is beyond my resources.
And nice method to get your maps noticed , though I will announce in the news section when new maps show up.
But do keep in mind, if any of you have a better idea at a rott site don't let this one's existence stop you! I have little knowledge of web design, or the money to throw around for hosting, so this ones growth beyond anything than what is now will be limited. |
