I've searched the net high and low over the past few years, trying to find Cody Ellsworth, author of ROTT Mapper Deluxe, in order to obtain a PIN to unlock the full version of the map editor. No luck.

For some reason I never thought to check Facebook. Until today. He's there. I contacted him and asked him if he wants the $8 for the key someone shared with me, and he replied:

Quote:

I appreciate you contacting me. It's good to hear from a fellow ROTT fan! Unfortunately, since I no longer have the source code for RMD, I can no longer offer support for it. Because of that, I couldn't possibly accept any money for it. However, I am perfectly fine with you using whatever key works for you. In fact, entering "RMD30BMAC" followed by any eight random numbers of your choosing should register the 3.0 version. Nothing fancy. I honestly don't recall which version was the last, so hopefully that still works. If not, perhaps I could talk you into sending me your copy and I might be able to recall it from memory after a few dozen attempts. Smile

Anyway, again, it's good talking to you and I'm glad RMD is still of use!

I thought you all may be interested. Smile

That is interesting, thanks for sharing the results of your search Mike Smile

Sad to see the source code is no longer around, but glad he's still around and kicking, and on top of that doesn't have a problem with us using the codes! His name is one that shouldn't be forgotten, as his editor had quite a impact in the ROTT editing world.

That's great news. This should be put into a sticky with a link to the editor... If only we had admin... *nudge, nudge!*

Lawstiker, maybe you could add it to the ROTTpository? Smile

Cool. Smile

I am surprised that we actually managed to contact him... It was really nice of him to even give out a code for people to freely use the editor.

EDIT: I just tried the code with 8 random numbers and it was rebuked as an invalid PIN... Sad

Also, just had a thought, maybe we should ask for a disclaimer from Cody first before sharing this (if someone gets it to work). Also, we should maybe tell him about the registry hack and ask permission to distribute it along with the editor. That could be a great asset to the future of Windows ROTT editing... What do you think? Smile

Go ahead, if he gives the "go ahead" on the registry entry... We may just be able to make a simple Windows installer.

Already done. He was fine with me posting his reply here, and I told him about the registry hack and he's got not problem with it.

Took a quick glance at and it seems suitable to me. If you manage to get an installer made with all the needed files I would have no problem adding this to the ROTTpository.

I have never made an installer before, but I will give it a try. (With the reg key included)

The good news just got better. That's brilliant that he's easy about the reg hack. If you can get an installer up and running I'd be happy to write a readme explaining that it's not pirate software - that is unless someone else would be happier doing it... Smile

Whelp... Simple installer is ready.

http://dopefish7590.info/ROTTMDInstall.EXE

Tell me if you notice anything wrong with it. It will ask where to install, and install... Nothing else except that it also writes an Uninstaller...

This also writes the registry key into the registry so you can install it anywhere and it will be registered.

Gave it a run, seems to work just fine with me in Vista. I'll let the other guys test it out first, then mind if I put this on the ROTTpository dopefish?

Go for it... But keep in mind that the scripting in the installer is very primitive as of yet.
