No, no. I misspoke before. The problem is:
The key combo in dosbox to start/stop movie creation is CTRL-ALT-F5.
In Linux, this takes you out of your current tty (to use Linux-speak) and takes you to another one where you can log into the system on the command-line. I could probably figure out how to disable or remap that key combo, but it would probably be more trouble than it's worth.
It would probably be easier for me to load dosbox on a windows machine and go from there. _________________ I love ROTT |

Ah, right... The Virtual Terms... Try typing this into the terminal to remap the shortcut...
Code: | dosbox -startmapper |

Yes, the virtual terminals. Been running Linux at home since 1994 and couldn't think of the terminology. Heh, my kids are rotting my brain.
Didn't realize that dosbox's keys could be remapped. It worked perfectly. I recorded 7 seconds of playing rott, and it created a 7MB file. (wow!)
Thanks!

Ok, so are you all interested in me creating a full-blown walkthrough, playing in regular mode, etc?
Or would it be sufficient to play in "woundless" mode to demonstrate how to make through the level, where the touchplates are, how to solve puzzles, where all the secret areas are, etc.?
(Doing it in woundless mode would be much easier and take a lot less time to create the videos, and a lot less time editing it later.)

I think a regular playthrough would be more interesting to watch. To me at least. I know it would take a little more time to edit and work out right, but I just feel it overall would be better and more interesting to watch than playing it though in Woundless mode.
Also, are you going to try and do this as is, or wait until Mike's Madness is fully worked out? _________________ Head on over to the Rise of the Triad HQ for ROTT news, downloads, and more!

Well since my new version is already uploaded, I'm assuming it's already "worked out" unless you guys run into some problems I have to fix... _________________ I love ROTT |

Hi jbailey.
Just to clarify, the request was for me to do a walkthrough of my levels, which I called "Mike's Madness", available here:
http://mikemiller.net/rott/MIKEMAD.RAR
or

But it's a good idea though. I love watching walkthroughs. Maybe we should start up a Youtube channel and we could all do a level each... What do you think? |

Sure, the only issues would be who does what levels, and everyone
involved would have to use the the same version of winrottgl or even
the original rott, also the recordings would have to be at the same specs.
How are the recordings done? (fraps, dosbox <-- only for
the original rott for example), we couldn't use the built-in recording
features of winrottgl because of sync problems. And after all the levels are
done, all the videos could be edited into 1 big video if desired. |

I would be interested in doing a video walkthrough of ROTT perhaps...but shouldn't we created a new topic in the General Forum for this instead of derailing Mikes thread? _________________ Head on over to the Rise of the Triad HQ for ROTT news, downloads, and more!

I wasn't trying to de-rail anything, I thought I was responding to a earlier
post, just start a new thread with the appropriate title and move these
2 or 3 posts in to it... |

I know you wasn't, and sorry if my post come across as accusing you of doing so
Anyway, our admin is MIA at the moment, so moving posts at this time isn't possible (unless dopefish had that ability).
Sorry about that Jbailey. I suppose this place really doesn't have any rules (check out the rules section ), so continue on with the discussion
Back on the video subject, if we where to merge all the films into once big video, where would we but this video? We would run into the same issue as mike as Youtube has a limit of 10min videos (I think, somewhere around that number). _________________ Head on over to the Rise of the Triad HQ for ROTT news, downloads, and more!

After all the videos are made, they can be uploaded to filefactory.com, I
can download all the videos, and edit them into 1 big video, we would need to
be careful to state what episode/level each video is so the right order can
be maintained. |
