I think this is definitely in the future for us ROTTers but I think we should take one step at a time. We are a very small community and potentially very fragile. I fully intend, with the blessing of Lawstiker, to integrate the 3 sites a little by use of simple but high profile hyperlinks. From the outside it will have the same effect as an all-encompassing site.
If things stay stable for a little while then it would maybe make sense to converge everything. It would also give us time to see the lay of the land with regards to what would be required for a solid and consistent future. So, I say, we should use what we have just now, take stock and then develop in an organic and calm manner.
This is a very exciting time for the ROTT community (for me at least!) and it would be far too easy to get carried away and burn ourselves out. In the past couple of months we've gone from a few disparate ROTT players floating around aimlessly to having a vibrant and active forum, a way of playing (at last!!) online multiplayer matches, custom made walkthrough videos, lots of new levels, a permanent home for ROTT files, a news page and even an IRC channel!!!! Temperance guys!! 
Oh, and we've made a shareware editor free for all, encouraged Birger to start work on his next gen editor, started a community map project and God knows what else! Phew - I'm going for a lie down!!

As I was explaining to Lawstiker, I'm happy to donate the domain, webhosting, space, etc toward this effort. I can set up Wordpress (which I now see that El Zee also suggested), a PHPBB forum if necessary (doesn't appear to be the case now) or some other CMS so that would allow active members of the group to maintain the site.
And also as I said to Lawstiker in the chat room: despite the fact that I created this, I do tend to be more on the pessimistic side and think that there simply isn't enough support and interest in a 15-year-old game to warrant such a thing, but I'd be delighted to be proven wrong.
So, the worst case scenario is that the site will sit and rot (pun intended) if it doesn't get utilized (no skin off my back).
Sorry to El Zee and others...didn't mean to steal anyone's thunder or jump the gun.

Interesting to see what Per-Scan does now since we've got a perfectly good domain address lying around here... 
Oh, and we really need to pick ONE of the IRC channels to go with. I was on both last night and I had el zee and hammer on one while Mike and Dopefish where on the other.

I say you make that website anyway, a one stop ROTT website would be great and may help revive the community. Seeing as not many people know about this forum i don't really see any harm done.
As for ROTTpository and other such websites, links could always be added to the main site, might increase activity at those websites, so its really the best plan of action. |

No need to go rouge just yet! I talked with Per-Scan about his desire to ease into this a bit slowly, throwing out there that the ROTT community had been rather stagnant and exactly the same for years...and to have such a radical change could be very, very good for this community. And in the event that he does not want to merge everything just yet making that a general front page for the community web sites would be a very good idea.

Wow! I go to bed and wake up to mutiny!! Just kidding. I'm about to email BizHat regarding ownership of this place. Lets see if that all goes smoothly first before making any more hard and fast plans. As Lawstiker mentioned, the scene has been pretty stagnant for a long time. I don't see any major rush for drastic change just yet. There are a lot of plans and ideas from all quarters just now which is a great thing but it takes time to go through all the options (of which there are now loads!) and make the best choices. I mean, we haven't even got ownership of this place yet! Give it a week or two, during which there will already be some drastic changes, and we can take it from there.

As I lied in bed last night, unable to fall asleep, I was thinking that Wordpress would probably be able to handle just about everything one might want to do for this "ROTT HQ" web site. If desired, all parts could be moved over to one central site. And the beauty of it (for me) is that I could give full admin access to various people to maintain various sections (and with Wordpress, you don't have to know anything about web design to maintain a page). If one of the goals was to move things away from "free" services, then in theory the main page of RottHQ.com would be the news or "tribune" section, and a sub-page could serve as the RottPository, with further sub-pages for docs and whatever else. Given that I could have a PHPBB forum set up in a day, if Per-Scan's negotiations with bizhat fall through, we could have a forum directly on the site as well. Also, since I own the domain, I can easy and freely create whatever subdomains we may want, for various uses, such as : forum.rotthq.com, chat.rotthq.com, or whatever. And as I mentioned to Lawstiker, my site has unlimited file space and unlimited bandwidth. I could even easily set up @rotthq.com email addresses (full mailboxes, or forwarders) for anyone who wanted one. The possibilities are endless.
I'm not jumping ahead of myself here, just thinking ahead.
Oh, and I'm not one to simply disappear from the scene (unless I get run over by a truck crossing the street one day), and will have no problem handing over full admin privileges to others here so we're in little danger of becoming "adminless" in the event I am murdered in my sleep one day.
Now, having "thought ahead" I agree with Per-Scan that we should let things settle down and see how the bizhat thing pans out before going any further, and then we should sift through all the ideas and come up with the best ones to implement, if any.
