I've signed up now, but as far as winrott & winrottgl being abandonware,
I personally don't think that's the case. Birger is still working on winrottgl
to some extent, I haven't talked with him in a good while, but to my
knowledge he was working on net code. As for myself, most of my work
was done when development of winrott was completed and work was
started on winrottgl, I did some testing work on winrottgl for a while, but
that was it. I haven't done much coding (really any) work on either
winrott or winrottgl in a long time, from my point of view, everything that
I wanted to get done was done:

1. Fix as many (if not all) of the bugs remaining in the original code base as released by 3drealms.

2. Add hi-res capability and eventually opengl support.

3. Add better net play capability (still needs work).

And other things, but all of this stuff has mostly been done, and I
considered my work finished once these goals were accomplished.

If I can contribute further on winrott/winrottgl development, I'll see what
I can do. What other things would the people here like to see added to
the current version of winrottgl?

Hello jbaliey, and welcome to the forums, it's a great honor to have you here Very Happy. Great work on winrott and glrott for starters! What the community would like to see, my guess, I can't speak for everyone, is a good, solid client server rott port, where players can host a game, and other clients can join ingame. That would be awesome.

A personal request of mine would be, hehe, since I'm trying to make mods for rott, is lots of documentation on how to mod for rott, like winrott/glrott specifications, a description of the rott palette, coding tutorials maybe, all gathered in a sort of wiki like webpage, for rott. Think zdoom wiki. That would be awesome too! Smile

Thanks! The last time I emailed birger, he had mentioned that very
thing, but didn't elaborate much, I'll see what info I can get and let you
know something as soon as I can..

For a quick look at modding stuff, try here for starters:

home14.inet.tele.dk/Bna-Info/MD2test.zip

I'll see what other info I can find.

Your right, there isn't much in that file, but it was the only thing immediatly
available off the bat that I could think of, I'll have to talk with birger about
getting more info.

hey, also, i personal request of mine would be an up to date rott map editor. The ones available right now are either outdated, or have many bugs. Surprised

You have to understand something, when work was started on winrott/
winrottgl, modding wasn't really part of what we wanted to do, your
entering new territory with modding, I'm not saying it's impossible, but
it's something that will be done 'from scratch'..

As far as map editors go, I've always used rott mapper deluxe 3.0, I sent
a letter to the author of that program once development had gotten far
enough along on rott to send me the source code so changes could be made
for the updated rott, but he never responded, I could try again I suppose though...

Oh yea, please do so. Wow, do you mean some guy named ellsworth i think? RMD is the best rott editor, unfortunately it's trialware. I would pay to have the full editor, but I cant find the creator of the editor anywhere. Yea, could you try sending him another email asking for the source code of the editor? That would be great. Smile

I'm only afraid he may lost his RMD source code files... *faint*

Nah... I think make a new editor is batter than working on a old editor...but I know it's not a easy job... *hit my head*

Hey PlayerLin, glad to see you finally joined! Yea, having a new editor would be great, but apparently there arent any coders interested in doing so.
