Well, it should actually be fine as long as the correct router ports were opened... I can't recall how to set up the IPX protocol with DOSBox as of current though. Also, it is possible to set it up over a VLAN, but that is probably a little too complicated to just get MP working when other options are present. _________________ -Swim, swim, hungry |

I'm in the same boat as the hammer. I've never played multiplayer as much as I would love to.
WinROTT is always promising robust multiplayer so hopefully something will come from that soon. Failing that the closest on the horizon to ROTT multiplayer is an upcoming mod for ZDoom called Return of the Triad. While not strictly ROTT it certainly captures the look and spirit of the game. It's hopefully being released before Christmas. |

That could be interesting... I had actually not even heard of it until you'd mentioned it though. _________________ -Swim, swim, hungry |

I have played ROTT in COMM-BAT (multiplayer) mode using DosBox and IPX. It worked just fine over the internet when playing with someone in the same country.
Of course when I tried to play with Mr. 'admin' who lives in Venezuela, it lagged horrible. So, my advice is to play someone who has a high-speed connection to a major net backbone.

It looks pretty cool and I'm pretty excited. It's almost like a ROTT MkII.
Here's a link to a Youtube vid for anyone else interested in seeing it in action:

This map has an almost Goldneye 64 feel to it as well which can't be bad!
As far as net connections and IPX etc goes, does everyone here have a decent broadband connection? And where is everyone based? It seems that a few folk are quite far apart!
FYI, I have a 20 meg cable connection and I'm based in Scotland. |

I'm in USA, east coast (near the hellhole that is Washington DC).
25Mbps net connection (though sometimes I get better):

I've been watching that, and it certainly looks quite interesting . Hopefully there estimated time of completion will be correct.
I'm located here in the states, but unfortunately my connection has no grasp on the concept of "stability" and lags amazingly bad when ever playing a game online. |
