From what I have researched, this is a actual port of Rise of the Triad to the Xbox, not just using linux/dosbox/original program. (Do not quote me on this, I have yet to find it, see it, mess with it, or test it. It just appears to be one) Problem is finding this thing. I've done some looking around, and the only places I have seen this for download are places that require registration, or torrents. This leads me to believe its a somewhat shady program. Perhaps thats just because its a homebrew program for the xbox, or maybe the program as it exists come with the official ROTT files. Either way I wanted to create this post and see if any of you had any details about this or even knew about this. I'll be continuing my research on this, and will tell what I discover.

Well, I've done a little more searching and managed to get ahold of this. While I do not have a Xbox to test this out at the moment, it does seem to be possible this is a legitimate port. The main reason why it was so hard to track down was because it did in fact have darkwar.wad, darkwar.rtl and darkwar rtc files included in it.

So far I see no reason why I could not just simply remove the illegal files from this package, and create a somewhat legal version of this file (I use the term "somewhat" just in case there is another reason why distributing this file would be a bad idea). What would you all think of this? I mean, if it is a legit ROTT port, leaving it to the vast forgotten realms of the net would seem like a neglect of preservation if it is in fact legal and real.

But keep in mind I do not know if it fully works. Whats you thoughts and opinions on this? Do you know something more about this? Please leave your thoughts. And if not at least this little thread will remain as a record of this so called port.

I think saving any of this stuff for posterity is a valuable thing. Actually, I was thinking of asking whether it would be a good idea to start collecting all the various ports out there and keep them on the ROTTpository. There are quite a few ports out there and they're only going to disappear into the virtual ether over time. There's at least the Dreamcast, DS, PSP, Symbian, GP2x, Wiz, Pandora and, of course, XBox ports out there. Who knows what else there is... Smile

I used to have a softmodded XBox. Kinda kicking myself I gave it away!

Could have come in handy now Smile

But actually that is exactly what I have been doing. Since I discovered the existence of the xbox port, I went around searching for other ports...and slowly i've been gathering files and research for creating a source port section on the ROTTpository. Surely things like the Icculus port and Winrott won't disappear off the net for awhile, but stuff such as homebrew can actually drop of rather quickly.

From what i've seen, you've listed quite a few of the ones i've found stuff for. Only other two would be Dr. Lex's OSX port and the port for the Dingoo A320.

Though i'm a little confused about the Symbian versions, as there seems to be two different versions for two different symbian based things...or maybe i'm just not researching hard enough. Anyway i'll get back to you on that one at least.
