I'm getting pissed.

Thanks to someone contacting me about my levels, I've got the ROTT LEVEL CREATING bug back. I realized I no longer have Rott Mapper Deluxe, so I downloaded it again, and typed in the serial number I happened to have saved, and it now says it's an invalid PIN.

WTF? No idea why it suddenly wouldn't work. Naturally Cody Ellsworth has dropped off the face of the planet, so there's no way to purchase one.

I can't even modify my own levels! (Well, the shareware/unregistered version allows you to edit the first three levels in a .RTL file, but that doesn't help me since I have 6 levels in mine.

Can anyone help?

-Mike

Well I use to have a code myself back in 2008, but never held on to it and a detailed search of the webs yields no results what so ever.

I find it very odd that a code that once worked no longer works. Since you seem to have actually paid for the program, how old was the version of ROTT Mapper Deluxe you where using before you deleted it?

The code was given to me two years ago by someone in this forum, and it was for v3.0 as far as I know. I was willing to pay for it then, but with the author nowhere to be found, so what else can be done? (Once a piece of software is abandoned, all is fair game with serial numbers, IMO).

It is rather strange the code no longer works. I'm baffled!
It's also quite clear that the code is for v3.0 because the code itself begins with 'RMD30'. Smile Or at least that's my assumption.

Are there other versions still to be found on the net???
I'm willing to try anything!

-Mike

Ugh, I guess if I can't get this to work, my level-creating days are over for good. Sad

Any help is appreciated.

I found a tiny bug in one of my levels I wanted to correct. Smile

Ah...well Dopefish would be your best bet now. If you had bought the code long ago I could have went with the idea that it was for the 2.0/a/b versions, but it is clear that your code is for the 3.0 series so that goes out the window.

Sorry I can do more for you man.

An update... I found the string data reference location of the "Thank you for registering" dialogue using a disassembler, however there appears to be a lot more references than I had first imagined there would be. Assuming I could find out where the program determines whether it is registered or not, I may be able to post a hacked execuatable... However, I can't do that right now as Olly Debugger keeps opening up my virtual machine (NTDVM) whenever I try to update the executable.

The NTVDM is the Windows NT Virtual DOS Machine, it is what 16-bit code runs on. (I was trying to do this in WinXP in VMWare...) Looks like if I feel like debugging this, I'll have to virtualize an old Windows 98 machine. That way I can bypass that annoying NTDVM, or maybe there is another workaround I could do.

Any ideas..?
My skill with Assembler and executable hacking is very limited.

Yikes, that's way above my skill level.
If you do manage to hack it to bypass the PIN check, I (and surely many others in the ROTT community) would be very appreciative. I'd even be willing to donate (monetarily) to the cause, if it would help...

Thanks,

-Mike
