Wow! looks like you've been working Smile

Sadly I can't really do anything to help. I've only had experience with beginner-level Ruby coding and some Lua scripting. I agree with Mike, if you manage to do this it would be very, very useful.

Well, I've kinda hit a brick wall until I get my hands on my old copy of Windows 98 so I can virtualize it. That way I could get past my virtual machine problem...
After that, it should all be downhill.

Oh, and thanks for the support. Smile
Don't worry about donating though, it was a nice offer though.

Dumb question: why does it have to be Windows 98, and not...say, WinXPpro?

I got it, I'm installing the VM right now.

Mainly because of NTDVM... As I mentioned earlier, All of the Windows NT based Windows OSes run NTDVM in order to execute 16 bit code on the machine. That means, when I try to disassemble my RAM to see what points where, the memory addresses in my executable disassembler and my debugger are not the same, and makes the debugger try to debug the wrong program. I'm not sure how to get around this to be honest since that is the main thread on the system and there is no real ROTTMD thread due to the emulation. I actually tried it in WinXP Pro originally. Embarassed

Again, please try not to expect much, I'm not sure all that I can do. I will try, but I can't say I'll be successful.

Edit: And this is my problem right here:

Notice how the memory values don't correspond, and the memory values that ROTTMD would usually be in are replaced by NTDVM? The mouse pointer and the highlight is where I was looking.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
Either way, I have just got Win 98SE working. So, I think I'll try that now.

OK, sorry, I guess I sort of knew the answer before I asked. I sort of understand the problem, even though I'm not a Windows kind of guy (been running Linux since 1994). So you confirmed what I really meant to ask, which is that this "NTDVM" didn't com into play until NT/XP came about. Glad you found your copy of Win98SE. Good luck!!!

Well, that was a lot of work for nothing... I have a version on my old hard drive that works. >.<

All it will take to patch it is this. (I think)
To run it, just double-click it.

Tell me if this patch works.

Maybe I'll still get a version that doesn't need a key in my free time. But until then...

It works!!! Thank you!!!

Strangely, though, the PIN that's set in this .REG file is the exact same PIN I have, and that wouldn't work for me. I don't undesrstand this "WINDOZE" registry stuff well enough, clearly...why does this work and simply typing in that PIN via the program's "enter PIN" dialog didn't?

In any event, I'm thrilled to be back in action again.
Many thanks for your assistance!

-Mike

Maybe it had to do with the program not setting the key in the registry because it thought it was invalid?

Not a clue to be honest.

Worked for me as well, might give this editor a try now.

Glad you could help Mike out, nice to have another ROTT mapper on the scene again. Oh and Mike if you see this would be okay if I posted my feedback in your thread for the map here? Might be a little while before I completely play through, and would like to send you my opinions on what I've already played before I forget. Embarassed

Anyway back on topic...you da man Dopefish Cool

Please do.
One problem I've had from the beginning is that I push too many limits, and the game engine can't handle it, causing the game to crash at random spots. Talking to Joe Siegler (originally ROTT mapper), he told me that I just need to cut down on numbers of items, but he couldn't give me any hard numbers for anything, so it's trial and error. I've managed to play all my levels all the way through with no crashes several times, but when I've tried to play them lately, I've been getting crashes. So while it will be painful for me, I'm thinking of cutting all my levels in half (so perhaps I'll have 12 levels instead of 6). Not sure this will be possible given the nature of some of the layouts, but I'm going to see what I can do in the interest of stability.

That's excellent news! I'll give this a try later once I finish work. Pretty chuffed! Smile
