Now if only I could play ROTT at work, this whole process would go a LOT more quickly. Smile

So Mike, are you making new levels as well or are you just trying to make your older ones more stable?

Right now I'm only in the process of making my current levels more stable. I'm also tweaking a few things here and there, and in some cases, where splitting the levels allowed me to "add" a few extra rooms, I have done so.

I would be happy to create more new levels, but before I even consider that, I would need for at least three different people to play all of my current levels to completion (without cheating), and receive feedback about them.

It would be rather silly to spend so much time and effort creating new levels if nobody plays them. (I posted links to my current levels on this board on 3D Realms forums two years ago and nobody ever replied until a few weeks ago when Lawstiker emailed me, throwing me into a state of shock and excitement. Smile

Well guys, I think this is a sign he wants us to finish our play through Wink

Well I was a little disappoint in the fact that not even one person gave feedback, and I know its nice to have some form of feedback when you put alot of time and effort into something. So I decided to say why not, check to see if you where still around and if so give you the feedback you needed Smile

I just hope you don't mind the slowness Confused

Of course I certainly understand the slowness, as I have an extremely busy schedule of my own.

The only way I've had any time to work on my levels lately is by sacrificing sleep. Heh. Smile

Thanks again,

It's not always a bad thing to receive no feed back. People are very vocal when there's something to complain about but can be a little thoughtless if there's only good things to share (I know, I'm as guilty as anyone...). So, I would take it as being a case of "no news is good news!".

Though ironically I think positive opinions are more potent than anything negative anyone has to say. So, without further ado, here is my first bit of feed back even though I've not played nearly enough yet: The use of lighting is brilliant it really adds to the atmosphere and shows just how ahead of it's time ROTT was in some respects. A good showcase, all in all. I would also like to say that I love the architecture. We all know ROTT is limited in this sense but you've managed to create an expansive and ominous feeling environment. I actually felt awe when I looked up and down in some parts of the first level. That's a rare thing for me in a ROTT map. So, yeah, colour me impressed! Smile

Haha, I wish I could be such an optimist.
In the case of a 15-year-old game, no feedback leads me to believe nobody finished the levels. I'm sure some tried it out, but I doubt anyone finished them (or even came close). Which is a shame, because some of the parts I'm most proud of are further on in later levels. The first level is actually one of my least favorite, as it was the first level I'd ever created, since I was just learning as I went along.

I thought about swapping that level with another one I liked better, so as to better "showcase" the goods for those who aren't apt to continue past the first level, but I never got around to it...(Hey, maybe I'll still do that since I'm redoing them...)

Thanks, I appreciate that.
My goal with the lighting is to set the level's natural light level to a low value, and then use lamps, ceiling lights, etc to light up a room. This allows me to then have a dark room if I want to (and I do). Of course, having to put all those lights/lamps in every room is a pain, and it uses up map "memory" and forces me to have to make a smaller level. So there are trade-offs.

There are actually TWO other secret areas to be found before reaching the invisible enemies, not including ones you've mentioned. One was mentioned by Lawstiker. It's a bit tricky to find (pushwall). Good luck.

Just wondering if anyone happened to go back and find the other secret area near the very beginning of the first level? (It's well before the huge group of invisible enemies, and opens to a rather large area where additional powers and weapons can be found).

Not yet. I've actually gone back to the Dark War to defeat El Oscuro once and for all! Then I'll go back to your's and hammer's levels. Smile

BTW, Why are you asking about the secret? Are you wary that it might be too difficult to find? Or are you just making sure people are playing your levels!? Razz

Heh. Neither, really.
The pushwall is in sort of an odd place, and I was just wondering if anyone had managed to find it, that's all. Smile

I accidentally looped back to the start without the key, but never thought to look for it again, I may just do that the next time I start up ROTT.

Heh, I don't mean to be building this up to more than it is. There's nothing particularly interesting about the "secret" area, other than perhaps the slightly odd placement of the pushwall (thereby making it slightly harder to find). I was just curious if anyone had found it.

Trying to tease us with this super awesome secret are you mike? Wink

Anyway I understand your asking. I haven't found it yet sadly...though can't say I looked all that hard for it though.
