Ah, Birgers editor... temperamental thing.

While I use it, sadly I cannot really help you out here as I have never encountered that error. Does it do this the moment you start it up, or does this occur after you load something up?

Perhaps one of the other members of the community can help you. If not your best bet would be to contact Birger himself about this.

Looks like a memory pointer was initialized as 0, and never changed... It was trying to access the very start of the memory, which is almost never used by most programs. The "0x7c911689" is the location in memory that the program was currently executing from. If you had a debugger you could look to see what exactly was happening there.

Edit:

This is where it is having trouble, looks like (I may be wrong so don't quote me on this) that it is having trouble with your CPU architecture in a way. Or at least the selection of what CPU you have. Someone should probably ask Birger or jBailey about it...

I can relay this error over to Birger. I was in contact with him not to long ago about older versions of his editor, so it shouldn't be to much of a problem.

Maybe you could ask him if he's still developing it. It would be nice to know if the editor had a future and, if so, what improvements he's working on. Smile

Alright, I contacted Birger about this. Just as I thought, he needed more information about this. He wants to know the exact events that caused this (what you did, what you where trying to, etc). He also said that sending the map that you where working on when the editor crashed to him would help greatly to.

I will try and ask him, as it is a good editor, and if it could be polished up a bit from its somewhat buggy state it would be a pretty good editor.

It really would be a good editor if it was more stable. The 3D window helps me no end in creating what I have in my head (although I've only been mapping for about 2 days! Razz).

I know certain people have a preference for editors that do not include a 3D mode (I remember one guy at 3DR said he liked the challenge that went with mapping without a 3D mode)...but to be honest I think a 3D mode is amazingly useful for those just starting out in mapping and don't quite know how everything looks exactly.

I've been messing with editing ever since I got here, but other things have distracted me (Namely the ROTTpository Smile ), and the fact I've been trying out all 6 editors available doesn't help either Razz

Speaking of that, hows mapping been going for you Per-Scan?

My mapping skills are best described as lacking! I stick lots of things in a grid and then I try to save it and load it in ROTT then the game crashes and then I start again! I really don't get all the lighting stuff and all that melarky yet. Major kudos for what Mike has pulled off!

I suppose I'm like you in that I haven't really settled on a particular editor yet so it makes it difficult doing anything really creative. I look at all the icons and all the textures and all the sprites and they're all tiny. It's really difficult to get a handle on these things! If I had to plump for one editor just now it would problably be ROTTed with the improved icon pack.

What about you? Have you put anything together yet? Smile

Well...Its been going alright so far. Still learning what you can and can't do, and what might cause problems and such. Pretty much most of my work is done on Rott3Deditor actually, as its the first editor I messed with. I have been taking a liking to MapedROT actually, of all things

The only thing I could say that is solid is the map i've been working on in Rott3Deditor. I've crashed the map quite a few times when playing it, but i'm learning. Most of what i'm making with the other editors is just test work. Still haven't given Ted5 a run yet...and have no idea how to operate the ROTTen editor yet.

But its been fun Smile

Speaking of that I have to ask, do you have any interest in fixing this error you encountered? Perhaps you could help improve Birgers editor by helping to identifying this error by giving a few more details about it and sending that map to him Smile

I think you misunderstood what I meant. I talked to Birger and he said he needs more information about how it happened, and possibly to zip the map file that you where working on if possible so he could identify what the problem was.

What I meant by this is are you interested in getting this error fixed/identified? All you would have to do is tell Birger what you where doing before it crashed and send him that zip file if you wanted.
