Well, not so much a community at the moment...more like a club I would say Smile

This originally came from a idea Per-Scan suggested, but was somewhat reluctant about it as there really wasn't to many people posting at the time...but dopefish expressed interest in it.

What do you all think about a community ROTT project? I doubt it could be done right now thought. Dopefish said he'd still have mess around and see if he wanted to, me and Per-Scan are still learning things, Mikes trying to improve and work on his levels, and Hammers got his own levels he's working on...but sometime in the future maybe when things have calmed down a bit? I think it would be cool to actually have a complete community effort for ROTT. What do you all think about this idea? Should we not do it? Wait and see if the community expands a bit? Leave your thoughts on this below Very Happy

Well, how would we go about doing this exactly? (Curious)

Would we have a list that we send the map to certain people at certain dates? Or would we post a link to the map and have whoever responds with "I'll continue it!" to do the next section? Or would something else happen altogether?

Thats why I thought it would be a good idea to bring this up now. We may not be able to work on it just yet, but at least we can discuss the formula for it now.

One question I have here (since I'm still new to rott mapping) is don't editors have a choice that allow you to choose which level you can edit? So its it possible to say someone starts a level for map 01, then passes it on to the next guy that works on map 07, or does the maps have to be made in consecutive order?

Once I'm confident I'll be up for it for sure. I was also thinking about allotting map slots. Is it possible for each person to take a map slot, make a map and have someone merge them into and RTL? Or do each of the maps have to be added in the way dopefish and Lawstiker suggest (into the one project)?

What we could do is someone create the rtl make the first level then pass it on and each person can add a level one at a time

although i dont know wther this will work since the only editor i use is rott ed i havent managed to get rid of the shareware part for rott maper deluxe Sad

Try this:

http://cid-c0ebae7cfc051a83.office.live.com/self.aspx/ROTT/ROTT%20Mapper%20Deluxe%20-%20v3.0.7z

That should just need extracted then you're good to go. Smile

As far as how to go about this project I'm pretty easy. It'll take me a wee while to learn to create something remotely fun anyway so from my point of view there's no rush. If you guys want to put out single maps or map sets on your own I wouldn't hold off until Lawstiker and I are ready! Think of it as practice for our future thang... Smile

You can use Per-Scan's link. Or try this installer: http://dopefish7590.info/ROTTMDInstall.EXE

They should both get you registered ROTTMD.

See this is what I was wondering about. Do the ROTT editors have the ability to merge different map files together, or are we going to be forced to use one rtl file and pass it around?

Either way i'm going to mess with the editors to see if this is possible, just in case one of the others don't have a clue either.

Well i've done a little looking around the editors, and discovered something of great help.

While the Doom community has a simple system for merging wad files together, ROTT had no such thing. You create a rtl file, and thats it. If you wanted to add a new map, you had to load up an editor and get work. This is what I believed, and I think this is what Dopefish believed as well.

Once I started to mess around with the old dos editor, MapedRot, I found out something that will help this project greatly. Turns out this editor gives you the option to export a level from a rtl file as a lvl file, and this gives you the ability to import levels into other rtl files.

This means that we do not have to have one person start the level, then pass it on to the next person. We can all work on our individual levels, and when we are done we can send them to the project leader (likely going to be me Wink, if no one objects), and then each individual levels can be extracted then inported into the main community project rtl file Smile

Well, it's good to know that we'll be easily organise something sometime down the line (the benefit of a small community I suppose!). Now, all I need to do is work out why 90% of my lone-room levels crash...
