MIKEMAD - Obsoletes/replaces MIKE1

Here are seven original single-player ROTT levels
create from scratch by me, Mike Miller.

These maps are intended to be played using the
original DOS version of ROTT. Use with alternative
ports at your own risk.

My levels tend to be quite massive, but due to
imitations of the game engine, most levels had
to be split up into multiple parts, so there
are actually a total of 15 levels.

I made sure I could complete all levels at
the most difficult setting. It is highly recommended
that these be played at the second-easiest setting
AT LEAST (if not at a more difficult setting).
This is because at the easiest setting, the game
gives too much away (such as telling you what
happens when you hit a touchplate or flip a switch)
and it makes the secret pushwalls too obvious.

Here are the levels included, and the approximate
amount of time (according to the game timer) that
it took me to complete the level (without any type
of cheating) at the most difficult setting:

LEVEL NAME TIME (mins)
----------------------------------------------------
0 Mike's Madness, Part 1 19
1 Mike's Madness, Part 2 33
2 Overwhelmed, Part 1 18
3 Overwhelmed, Part 2 17
4 Grand Plans Cut Short 9
5 Just Give Up, Part 1 15
6 Just Give Up, Part 2 20
7 Pushed to the Limit, Part 1 16
8 Pushed to the Limit, Part 2 12
9 Pushed to the Limit, Part 3 15
10 Interlude 13
11 End Game, Part 1 11
12 End Game, Part 2 9
13 End Game, Part 3 6
14 End Game, Part 4 20

More levels may be added at a later date.

The final level ends with a boss (NME). Kill the
boss, and it's all over. Unfortunately, it tells
you that you killed General Darian. I have no idea
how to make it say that you killed the NME. If you
happen to know, please contact me at rott@mikemiller.net
and let me know.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
To play, copy all MIKEMAD.RTL and MIKEMAD.BAT to
your main ROTT directory (probably C:\ROTT)
and simply type: MIKEMAD
at the prompt.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Also, feel free to contact me if you have any
comments, questions, or criticisms about these
levels. rott (-at-) mikemiller dot net

Thanks for playing!

-Mike

Wow. It's 5 in the morning here and I've been up all night making maps. Bleary-eyed I popped on here just for the sake of it before going to bed. And I find this! Now I'll have to stay up a while longer 'cos I can't download this and then forget about it - I'm far too nosey for such things! Smile

The ROTTpositories files have been updated and I have removed MIKE1 from the list. Mike's Madness had now been added (and nice job on actually naming this episode now Wink ), and thanks for putting up a rar version, makes it all the simpler to upload to the ROTTpository!

Oh and is it just me or does this:

I'm confused.
I tried to obscure my email address from spammers/harvesters, but here it is showing in the clear. Does the board somehow translate my obfuscated version to the real version? I know the "README" contents above didn't have in in the clear when I typed it. WTF....

Hmm, oh well. I already get thousands of spam emails per day, but Gmail does an amazing job of filtering them out. So I'm not too worried about it.

Since I can't edit my posts, here's the version of my list of maps with the formatting kept intact. ("TIME" is the time it took me to complete the level--and keep in mind I already know what it takes to solve each level).

Code:

LEVEL  NAME                              TIME (mins)
----------------------------------------------------
  0    Mike's Madness, Part 1             19
  1    Mike's Madness, Part 2             33
  2    Overwhelmed, Part 1                18
  3    Overwhelmed, Part 2                17
4    Grand Plans Cut Short              9
  5    Just Give Up, Part 1               15
  6    Just Give Up, Part 2               20
7    Pushed to the Limit, Part 1        16
8    Pushed to the Limit, Part 2        12
9    Pushed to the Limit, Part 3        15
 10    Interlude                          13
 11    End Game, Part 1                   11
 12    End Game, Part 2                   9
 13    End Game, Part 3                   6
 14    End Game, Part 4                   20

That'll be a nice reference. It's a shame ROTT doesn't have built-in par times like it's contemporaries. That should really be added to WinROTT (that and stability! Razz).

Thanks Mike. Smile

Heh, not sure these should be considered "par" times. While they can certainly be beat (I managed to finish "Overwhelmed, Part 2" in 20 minutes last night), they're probably closer to "time to beat" times (while making sure to kill all enemies!)

Once it's out there, it's out there. A second time can't make it worse. Smile
So, no problem.

Which level? Overwhelmed, Part 2?
(Are you playing the newest version of my map, with the 15 parts?)

No its Just Give up part 1 (Yep Smile).

I leave the room with the auto opening door ambush, go through the elevator, take out the monks, explore around, then have no idea where to go.

I am trying to visualize where you are. Is it the area where the monks are sort of riding on GADs that are moving back and forth?

If so, after you open the door right past that area, there should be a couple of pushwalls.

If not, please give me more details and/or perhaps a screenshot.

Thanks,

-Mike

P.S. What's the proper color I should use here to obscure my text against this light blue background?
