Well, I lied. I have created a new level. Creative juices still flowing, I put another one together the past few days. This one I called "Tormentor". It's a short level, but it's a doozy. It only contains two main rooms, but there are 160 enemies to kill before you can get to the exit. And of course some big surprises and some whacky stuff (knowing me, that's a requirement ).
But I'll be holding this one out for a while...I wouldn't want to distract you all from the "Mike's Madness" episode.

Nice to know there's something further down the pipeline to be tormented by. I'm still struggling with Mike's Madness! If there was ever a reminder that I'm rubbish at games Mike's Madness is it!
OT: Mike, you mentioned before making a video or demo of your levels. Would you still be up for that? It would be cool to get our own Youtube channel up and running. |

I haven't tried it yet, but I could.
What's the standard method of creating a video demo?
I know there's a cheat code for making one within the game (but I've never tried it) and I'm not sure how to turn that into a video suitable for upload to youtube.
There also seems to be a function within dosbox to create a video, but it wants me to hit ALT-F10 or something like that but that keystroke has a particular function in my window manager (in Linux) so it doesn't work. I might have to load dosbox under windows (which would annoy me because I like to use Windoze as little as humanly possible)...
Any ideas before I screw with it? I may not have time to get to it until Sunday night or Monday anyway... _________________ I love ROTT |

Well, if you run DOSBox Fullscreen [Alt]+[F10] should do what it's supposed to. _________________ -Swim, swim, hungry |

If that's my only option, I'll have to load dosbox in Windows (and hope it'll work well enough on my VM...)
Given that I can get it to work, what should I create a demo of?
I certainly can't do a complete walkthrough, as that would be a 4 hour video! _________________ I love ROTT |

So, even when DOSBox is in fullscreen the ALT F10 function still doesn't work under Linux?
Again, it's something I know nothing about (God, this place makes me feel like a noob!) but what about FRAPS? Isn't that what people normally use for capturing games? I'm not even sure if there's a version of it for Linux...
As far as what I'd like to see. I'd be happy to just see you play through one level at a time. That way you'd eventually do a full walkthrough but you can take your time recording it. |

I can't remember offhand what it did (since I'm not there at the moment), but the window manager itself accepted the keystroke and pushed the window behind other windows or something like that.

Well even that wouldn't allow me to put it on youtube, as some levels take 20 minutes or more to solve. (But I may be able to host my own videos).
Also, I get killed a lot and have to quickload the game a million times, so not sure how much fun that would be to watch....unless I edit the video before publishing... _________________ I love ROTT |

I believe Youtube has a limit of 10min videos, so if you did have a fairly long video you would have to cut it down into parts if you wanted to take that method. _________________ Head on over to the Rise of the Triad HQ for ROTT news, downloads, and more!

The key combo is to Maximize/Restore IIRC...
Why do you need to boot into Windows to use DOSBox Fullscreen though? The Key combo to do that is [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Enter]. _________________ -Swim, swim, hungry |
