So I have a big ol' .AVI file created by DosBox, but being the perfectionist I am, I would require editing it so that I can put in subtitles and annotations along the way to explain things. Also, I had to record a few areas several times, as there is sometimes a couple of ways to achieve the same result, and I wanted to demonstrate both.

But the only video editing program I have is Adobe Premier Elements 7, and for some reason it doesn't understand these AVI files. And of course the moronic "Microsoft Movie Maker" doesn't understand it either. Not being a Windoze person, I'm not sure how to determine what codecs I need or how to install them.

What do you all use to edit vids?

-Mike

Post your video file to filefront, let me know what the download link is, and
what format you want it converted to, I have several conversion programs.

Or if you want to do this yourself, the link is here:

Another program would be virtualdub:

I would have thought .AVI is generic enough that APE7 would understand it, so I'm not sure what format to suggest. I usually import and .MTS files (newer, HD, more obscure) without problem so I'm confused. I'll check it out and hopefully I'll come up with a good suggestion.

Thanks,

-Mike

But not free, by the looks of it....

No, it's a commercial program, virtualdub is free, but a little harder to use...

I did some experimenting between winrottgl and the original rott with
dosbox, in my opinion, it's far easier to record rott movies with fraps and
winrottgl then with original rott, the settings I used were as follows:

Fullscreen
1024x768x32 bit opengl
fraps set to record at 30 frames per second
sound also recorded

I tried out mikes rtl file for the initial test and got good results, the resulting
fraps avi file can be converted, I converted the avi file to wmv and played
it back, the results were ok.

Well, jbailey, keep in mind that MikeMiller uses Linux. :p
So getting Fraps to work with his desktop would be no trivial matter.

Oh, and would you like me to delete the post with the borked picture..? (I can't edit it because of a few options that admin played with... :o)

Go ahead and delete that post, it doesn't contain any useful info.

As long as the resulting video is whatever specs everyone agrees to, it doesn't
matter what's used, but there would be a major difference in video
quality since winrottgl uses opengl and rott doesn't, so I may have to
tweak my rott/dosbox stuff.

I've posted a comment on PsychadelicSA's channel on Youtube asking what set up he uses as his videos are fairly good quality. Hopefully, he'll respond with some panacea. Smile
