Well, I've spent considerable time and have put together a video walkthrough for the first level of my 15-level episode.

It is here: http://mikemiller.net/rott/mikemad_walkthrough/

Now I begin level 2.

Nice! I liked the way even you forgot about at least one of your secrets! I am proud to say that there was only one push wall that I hadn't found that was in your vid (the one to get you back past the wall of spinning blades.

It's always nice watching other people playing a game and it's all the more interesting watching someone play through their own levels. Thanks Mike. Smile

I'm working on the second level now.

That was a nice video Mike Smile. Only watched the first few mins because of time limits, but I'll watch the rest a bit later!

The walkthrough for the second level of the episode (called "Mike's Madness, Part 2") has been posted.

http://mikemiller.net/rott/mikemad_walkthrough/

I actually fumbled and died once in this one at one point. Remember that I play all my levels at the most difficult setting.

Well I have to say it was awesome to see you just go right through those Lave pillars without any problems. Compared to me I died SO many times trying to get through that Smile

Heh, well it certainly helps to have designed it. I have a distinct advantage here Smile

I liked your 'Whoops' moment. Smile And, yeah, the asbestos vest will make life easier in my next playthrough of that level!

Actually, if you know all the "secrets" to these levels, they're really quite easy to get through. At least that seems to be true of the first two levels.

And given that I'm a keyboard-only player, and playing on the most difficult setting, I would thing that anyone who's adept at using the mouse (and perhaps playing on a less difficult setting) would have much easier time of it.

Yeah, it does seem that way. It's a great way of making the secrets all the more enticing to find. Smile

The walkthrough for level #3 ("Overwhelmed, Part 1") has been posted.

http://mikemiller.net/rott/mikemad_walkthrough/

I found this level far too easy to get through. I think I may need to tweak it to make it harder.

(History: this part of the level actually used to be more difficult, but when I was having problems with crashing, I kept removing enemies in order to get below whatever thresholds I needed to get under. Now that I've split up the levels, it's time to add more enemies in certain spots...)

I'm about to check it out (buffering as we speak). Did you ever suss any rough figures for what the thresholds and limits to the maps were?

No, and I'm not sure how they're even counted. Even Joe Siegler, when I spoke to him, couldn't give me anything precise. His advice, when I complained of the crashing I experienced, was something along the lines of, "that error means you have too much of something" and "there are certain limits for certain things in the game" and "try cutting back on some things you have a lot of".

I've seen maps where the non-playable areas were completely filled with background tiles, so I'm assuming that the limitations are on foregrounds items: enemies, items, masked walls, etc.

It would be easy (but tedious) to count if a level would crash the moment it's run when an item has been overused, but that's not the case....it's very sporadic. So, we may never know the answers.

That's what I thought. I tried 'stress' testing some things but the results are variable t say the least. Still, it's all part of the fun.

PS: You have some cool keyboard chops when you're playing ROTT! Smile
