Still on Just Give up Part 1, been a little swamped with things so haven't had to much time. Haven't had any issues so far after that door incident Smile

PS: To answer your other question, it was pretty much everything I saw after I got past that door. I thought your use of the GADs where pretty fun and I really liked the outside area's.

I'm currently at E1A4. This is more to do with me not being very good. I've also gone back to the beginning quite a few times just to find all the nooks and crannies. Smile

If you find it too difficult to get past the enemies, you could always use the cheat codes. Smile

If for some reason you don't expect to continue anyway, there's at least one puzzle area I'd like everyone to see....

Never! Cheating's for wimps! Razz

I'll get there eventually. It just takes me a while (and more than a few attempts!).

What level is the bit you want us to see on? That way I can keep an eye out. Smile

I sort of listed my "memorable" parts in another thread. Here they are again with extra commentary:

(1) The "puzzle" I'm most proud of is the one at the beginning of "End Game, Part 1". It's not difficult, but I enjoyed coming up with the rather unique way of getting to a key suspended JUST out of reach.... (shit, I never tried it with Lorelei, to make sure she can't reach it with her super-speed....I better do that ASAP)

(2) Another puzzle that's possibly more difficult to figure out (or at least annoying to get through) is at the very beginning of "Pushed to the Limit"....you have to go to great lengths to obtain the key in that room.

Being the author of these puzzles, it's hard for me to determine how difficult they are for others to figure out. I look forward to seeing how others fare with them.

(3) My favorite "difficult" non-puzzle area (with lots of enemies) is in "Just Give Up, Part 2". It involves a million enemies moving around, seemingly out of control. It's quite humorous to watch. I won't say much more, to avoid spoiling it.

-Mike

Thought I just might give you an update Mike. I'll have quite a bit of free time Friday, so I plan to sit down and play your levels (hopefully to completion Smile)

Well, I've just started Just Give Up so I'll keep my eyes open for your choice moments Mike. Thanks for the highlight pointers - It'll certainly add to the experience looking for the 'tourist' attractions. Smile

So Per-scan and Lawstiker responded to my 'head count' I thought dopefish was playing as well; I could be wrong about that.

Boy, I wish map-building were as simple for modern games....

Dopefish has been a little less active in the past couple of days. He may just be busy at the moment.

I do to. Games are becoming so complicated now that you need a whole team of people to do anything really.

Unreal Ed wasn't so bad once I finally figured out how everything worked Smile

Indeed. There's a certain purity that's missing in today's games and therefore editors. The biggest draw to me about ROTT map making is the distilled nature of the whole game. It's simple to the point of being virtual Lego and yet has a look and feel all to itself.

It's interesting how today's games, especially FPS's, are all so complicated to play and edit yet 90% of them look and play pretty much the same! Chisel-Jawed brooding alpha males fighting a war in tones of grey and brown... It's almost like they've come full circle and are back to Quake!

Don't get me wrong. I'm not an old curmudgen who hates new games. I just find it ironic that we've come so far yet somehow lost the core of what a game is... Smile

I still play alot of the newer FPS and enjoy playing them at that (Though I am getting very tired of "Realistic Shooters" ), but I honestly enjoy the older ones alot more in the long run.

Plus editing is a lot easier and simple for the older stuff. You got an idea in your head it doesn't take you long to create it with these older games.

Alright, I got quite a bit of way through your episode mike (with a few problems) But I got stuck on endgame part one and didn't want to cheat past it so I decided to just call it quit's and get some help from you.

anyway, here's to my opinion on what I played so far:

Just Give Up part 1
-----------------------------------------
Boy did it take me awhile to make it past that room with all the gads up in the air where you had to run across to the next one carefully without falling off. Fun, but it sure showed me how ungraceful at that game I really am Smile

The Room of gibbing as I called it was sure interesting. Walk into a room and all I see is body parts dropping from the ceiling.

And as I walk into the next room I see the words pip and scotts head floating in the air. Picked up the balls and went to the jump bad and it never even occured to me it would be a trap Smile. Ironicly taking out the ambush group wasn't as difficult for me compared to getting scotts head! I kept walking up on the fence or over shooting it.

And very interesting place to keep that gold key at mike, took me a little while to find that at first. Originally I made it to the gold door, couldn't find the key, then tried going all the way back but them made it to the fence. denied.

Just Give Up part 2
-----------------------------------------
One thing I must say is I'm always scarred when I go into one of your elevators, because I never know where I might show up at Wink

I just loved how you managed to use gads to create a type of maze. The spinning four in the middle where just fun to sit on and ride honestly

An then we get to the room with the evil evil boulders...wasn't so bad when I had the flight on, but then I had to use the jump pads. Don't know how many times I got knocked out trying to get in where they where spawning or how many times I got knocked the wrong way trying to get that silver key. Very creative there.

Then it got better with the moving GADs follow and the gajillion Triad Enforcers you had in the room. At first I though "Yay moving gad floor!!" then I went and got swarmed by Enforcers. Sure you know how that went.

Pushed to the Limit part 1
-----------------------------------------
This level was terrifying as I started out with three health bars (rocket malfunction on the last level Smile ) and once I encountered the overwatch guys (black guards if i'm naming things right) I thought I was dead, but luckly I had the drunk missiles and took care of them easily...then I heard my worst nightmare, a whole bunch of enforcers where heading right for me from behind! I quickly darted into the blace the overwatch guys came from and was SO thanful for those crystals.

And that I encountered the that damn pillar I had to push all over the room. Just when I think I'm about to get it where I want it it I have to push it to the clear other side of the room and back again! a very very evil trick mike. Very evil Smile. Though I noticed you don't need to move both of the pillars to get to the key. I could get through just fine with moving that evil pillar where I wanted it to get the gold key.

Also, very evil use of doors after the gold door elevator. The was sure a surprise when I opened that door and got a mouthful of fireball.

Then I really liked the stadium like design of the room a little ways further. Poor robot on the floor missed out on all the action Smile

Oh and a few things about the room with the dog power up. I managed to actually jump over one of the fences on to the side with the guards, and was strangely unable to to jump back over to the other side and got stuck there. Also depending on where you looked in the room the fences would sometime disappear (I was playing in DOSRott this time)

Also I could not find another key anywhere after the gold one, no matter where I looked. I decided to skip this level, but kept a save point for it so I can figure out what I had to do from you.

Pushed to the Limit part 2
-----------------------------------------
And I ended up liking the maze made out of the pillars, though I wished it had been a little less...circular, but it was alright. Enforce in the middle ended up gibing a few of his buddies so that was humerous.

Then I realized how much I appreciated that prior maze when I got to the much more dangerous to my health one in the next room. I got lucky and made it across the boulders with no damage!

Pushed to the Limit part 3
-----------------------------------------
Teleporting caged pathway near the oscuro door...was not expecting that in the least Smile

All I could say in the next room when I saw that boulder heading right for me was "Oh shit!" Then had to restart because I ran away and couldn't get back in the door. (Oh and I should not here that it did not appear again like the first time I played this level, but did show up again later on when I made it back to the room)

When I did manage to make it back there a second time and get through the door, I noticed the boulders started to get stacked up on the door.

I ended up having to skip this level to as I could not find the Oscuro key, and couldn't go back the way I came once I made it back to the first room with the door.

Then later on to the scary ass lava room. Managed to make it a good distance before I fell of and just decided to book it across the lava floor to the armor.

Interlude
-----------------------------------------
I have to say I think I liked this level the best actually. There was just something about the dark setting it had that I really truely loved. I quite enjoyed playing this level! (though what was up with everything being up in the air like that in the first room? )

Endgame part 1
-----------------------------------------
And this is where I hit my stopping point. I managed to get the boulders rolling out around and couldn't figure out what I had to do next.

So I was not able to finish the whole episode as I wanted, but I did manage to get quite a distance into it at least. Sorry mike, but I just didn't want to skip anymore than I already did.

tl;dr version
-----------------------------------------
Some good stuff and it was quite fun especially if your a puzzle guy Smile

Ahh, yes. That may be one time to actually turn off the RUN mode, if you have trouble with this sort of thing. Usually I quicksave it after every movement, just so I won't have to repeat what I accomplished. Smile

Ha! I love that part. It's quite satisfying to hear the screams and grunts as the guards are shredded, and seeing the eyeballs and limbs and other gibs fall all around you.

One of the reasons it was so hard to find is because it was invisible until you hit that switch....

And the high guards shooting at you were only able to get a bullet through to you like 1 in 100 shots.

Thanks, the inspiration for that came to me as I was trying to fall asleep one night. I had to get up and sketch out my idea so I wouldn't forget.

That's my very favorite [non-puzzle] part of all my levels.
I wonder how you got through it. As you'll see when I do my walkthrough, I spend the whole time out in the hallway, drawing them out... And seeing all of those guards spinning around wildly makes me laugh every time.

This was very tricky to create. If you play the slow Doug Wendt, you will need the second pillar. The speedy Lorelei doesn't, though. I just wanted to make sure that you definitely had to do the "evil" one, as you say. Smile

Only if you moves straight forward and touched the touchplate and didn't move out of the way. Smile

Ahhh, I never thought of the possibility of jumping over the fence. I'll put jump-pads behind there just in case...

After you finish with the "dog mode" area, you take an elevator back to the main room you started the previous level in. The key is in there! (It wasn't accessible before, but it is now). I'm guessing you never saw it in the first place!

You can't really go through that door (or it's not intended that you do). There's another way around it very nearby.

The oscuro key is in the area with all the blue-face walls and the masked walls (grated walls) with guards standing behind them.

The is my most recently-created level, which I created while I was splitting up all the other levels. I just had the idea for the darkness and went with it. And to answer your question, it's just a silly thing I thought would be disconcerting to see. Smile

Ahhh, HA! This is my favorite puzzle in the game. And I see it has stumped you. I could give you the answer, but let's see if I can just give you a hint: You can't reach the key, but you can use the boulders to help you reach it. But, not if they're moving all around like that... (That's your hint...let me know if you need more).

I composed this reply quickly with kids screaming at me, so I may not be clear at times. Let me know if you need any clarification.

Thanks!

Thats exactly what I ended up doing Smile

I just knew you where evil mike! but it was satisfying and have to say nice job on that room.

Exactly the method I went with! After my first failure I was "hell, that isn't going to work" so I just stayed back and waiting for them to (try!) to come down the hall Got to say it was fun to see Smile

You got me. I just walked through and stared at the face like a deer caught in the headlights Smile

I couldn't get over it again though. Must have been one of the moments. But putting on there just in case might be a good idea.

Well if you know me mike I can get past all the hard stuff, its the relatively simple and easy to find stuff that stumps me Smile

Well that one I've got to say was very nice! You score points for that one.

Well I have to say I liked it. Seemed quite odd. Like something out of the Twilight Zone.
