Hey guys. Just got back into playing ROTT. I was looking over the latest winrottGL version, and was playing around with the settings and found it can be very buggy. I get certain moments when it crashes, or the sound disappears. Furthermore, I can't seem to get the catwalk models to work. What file are they stored in, I think the file isn't actually in the gl folder, but I need to know what it is to verify.
Also, the skies when using normal ROTT skies tend to "jump" when rotating your view horizontally. I definitely don't know why that is. And some of the masked walls have odd artifacts on them, like edges that come out of the ceiling when their shouldn't be, or lines down the center where they stop.
I have a couple of requests, more like a wish list. Is it possible to added "actor shadows" ala duke3d. A simple silhouette of the actor on the sprite, just like duke3d does it would suffice. Dynamic lights would be cool as well, since ROTT kind of already has a weird lighting system. Also, brightmaps for enemies and sprites would be neat too. Anyway we could make any of this happen?
Id be willing to help on the graphical side of things if wanted. I'm considering redoing the models for the columns, for starters as they are not very good, and don't look much like the original ROTT columns at all. Same with the catwalks, which by the way, could use a "fat" version for the supports, instead of just for the tops. The gads are fine, but need some retexturing IMHO, they are too bright and not quite "shiny" enough. Also while I like the skies, I don't like the mountains and the stars, and moon in the night sky could seriously be cleaned up.
Just my two cents. I'm not even sure if anyone still checks this forum out at all, but I think the ROTT people out there need to show some more support for their game! |

Hey Ringman, great to see you back here. I'm always checking out the boards here, even if it takes me a while to do it. Definitely agree with you on that, we need to support this great game. Regarding your requests/wish list, I dont know, in general winrottgl is very buggy, and I dont know if Birger still works on it. There's a few options for rott nowadays regarding modern ports. There's icculus' rott port which gets updated here and there, and there's the upcoming rott support in Blzut3's Ecwolf engine, but that's still ways off.I'm not much of a coder, but i have a wacom tablet that I would like to start using! I could help with making some graphics too! Anyways, hope you read this! _________________ ROTT lives! |
